Redmi K40 May Debut Dimensity 6nm Flagship Chip

A few days ago, Lu Weibing, general manager of the Redmi brand officially announced that the Redmi K40 series will be released next month. It will have the Snapdragon 888, and the price will start at 2,999 yuan ($464). This morning, Lu Weibing once again issued an article saying: “The K30 Ultra equipped with Dimensity 1000+ is extremely popular. It has now entered the end stage of its lifecycle. The new Dimensity flagship chip will be coming in 2021.”

These words seem to imply that the new Redmi machine will be equipped with MediaTek’s new generation flagship processor. According to past practices, the Redmi K40 series will launch at least two models, of which the Redmi K40 Pro is the top-of-the-line flagship. It will have the Snapdragon 888 processor, while the Redmi K40 may be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity processor. According to previous news, the specific model of MediaTek’s upcoming 5G SoC is MT6893. The official name of this chip is Dimensity 1200.

New Dimensity Chip

The Weibo blogger revealed that this Dimensity 1200 is based on a 6nm process. It uses ARM’s latest Cortex A78 architecture. It consists of four Cortex A78 cores and four Cortex A55 cores, and integrates the Mali-G77 GPU. This hardware combination will be able to increase CPU performance by about 22%, while GPU performance by about 13%. So, this is also the world’s first 6nm A78 chip. The current score of this chip on the AnTuTu platform exceeds 620,000 points. It has surpassed last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip.

In addition, MediaTek will officially release this new Dimensity chip on January 20. It is officially called a brand new product, coming with a superior technology and an upgraded experience. According to the news from the same Weibo blogger, Redmi should officially announce the specific time of the Redmi K40 series after the MediaTek new product launch.
