5G Smartphone Shipments Exceed 4G Smartphones In 2020

According to the latest report, from January to November 2020, China’s smartphone market shipments totaled 281 million units, of which 144 million are 5G smartphones. This accounts for 51.4%. This is the first time that 5G smartphone shipments have surpassed 4G smartphones in the annual span.

The development of 5G smartphones is unstoppable. In August last year, the shipment of 5G smartphones accounted for less than 1%. In the following 10 months, the shipments of 5G smartphones have risen wildly. Since June this year, the shipments of 5G smartphones have stabilized above 60%. In November of this year, 5G smartphone shipments accounted for 68.1%, a record high.

According to the China Institute of Information and Communications Technology, in November 2020, the total domestic smartphone market shipments were 29.584 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 15.1%; from January to November, the total domestic smartphone market shipments totaled 281 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 21.5%.

5G Smartphones Shipments Increasing

In terms of 5G smartphones, in November 2020, the domestic market’s 5G smartphone shipments amounted to 20,136,600 units. It accounts for 68.1% of the smartphone shipments during the same period. 16 new models, accounts for 53.3% of the number of new smartphone models launched in the same period. In addition, from January to November, the cumulative shipments of 5G smartphones in the domestic market were 144 million units. The total number of new models on the market was 199, accounting for 51.4% and 47.7% respectively.

In November 2020, domestic brand smartphone shipments were 22.680 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 27.7%, accounting for 76.7% of smartphone shipments in the same period. 27 new models on the market, a year-on-year decrease of 42.6%, accounts for 90.0% of new smartphone models launched in the same period. In addition, from January to November, domestic brand smartphone shipments totaled 249 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 23.6%. It accounts for 88.5% of smartphone shipments in the same period. A total of 375 new models were launched, a year-on-year decrease of 21.5%. It accounts for new smartphones listed in the same period 89.9% of the number of types.
