MediaTek Expects To Ship 45 Million Sets Of Dimensity Chips In 2020

At the MediaTek US media communication meeting held a few days ago, MediaTek’s executive deputy general manager, chief financial officer and company spokesperson Gu Dawei revealed that MediaTek’s goal is to exceed $10 billion in revenue by 2020. In terms of revenue, it will become the world’s fourth largest IC design company.

It is worth mentioning that MediaTek’s R&D investment in 2020 is expected to reach $2.5 billion.

Dimensity 1000+

The rapid growth of performance in 2020 came from MediaTek’s overall progress in smartphones, tablets, routers, smart TVs, and other fields. Among them, the smartphone business is the most eye-catching. At the same time, at the media communication meeting, MediaTek released the Dimensity 700. To remind you, it is the latest member of the Dimensity series of 5G chips. It sports a carrier aggregation (2CC 5G-CA) and 5G dual card dual standby (DSDS), as well as faster and clear 5G VoNR voice services. The Dimensity 700 uses an octa-core CPU architecture, including two large-core Arm Cortex-A76, with a main frequency of up to 2.2GHz.

Since the release of Dimensity 1000 last year, MediaTek has built a comprehensive 5G chip portfolio and has become a strong competitor in the market. Especially facing the complex international political and economic situation, the value of MediaTek has become more prominent. Dr. Xu Jingquan, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek and General Manager of Wireless Communications Division, revealed that they expect to ship more than 45 million sets of Dimensity series chips in 2020. They expect to cover North America, Europe, the Middle East, China, Southeast Asia, and Australia. And they hopefully expect that South America and Africa will be added in 2021.

Predictions and goals for 2021

Xu Jingquan pointed out that they expect the global 5G smartphone shipments to exceed 200 million units in 2020. Further, it will increase to 500 million units in 2021. This is a huge opportunity for MediaTek.

MediaTek’s CEO Dr. Lixing Cai said that at the summit last year, “we hope to achieve within 3 to 5 years. We want to become a highly respected company that demonstrates strategic influence in the global semiconductor industry. With the outstanding performance in 2020, I believe that our goal will be achieved.”

“This year’s entire product portfolio is not driven by a single product line. And the main reason is that it provides competitive solutions and generates strong growth across the board. This is very important. Cai Lixing revealed that about 2 billion terminal devices use MediaTek’s chips each year. They are brands such as OPPO, LG, Samsung, Amazon, Microsoft, VIZIO, Belkin, Lenovo, Plotton, etc.

In addition, at this media communication meeting, MediaTek revealed that it will release a 5G chip using a 6nm process technology. The CPU uses an ARM Cortex-A78 core design and the highest frequency of the main core is 3.0GHz.
