Apple Watch Sets A New Record With Shipments Of 11.8 Million In The Q3

Today, the IDC research company shared the data according to what the total shipments of Apple Watch in the third quarter of 2020 reached a staggering 11.8 million units. It is worth mentioning that it is higher than the 6.8 million units shipped in the third quarter of 2019. An increase in the shipments is nearly 75%.

The 11.8 million units seem to be a new quarterly record for the Apple Watch. According to data from the research company Strategy Analytics, it has never shipped more than 9.2 million units in any previous quarter. The third quarter of 2020 includes the release of the high-end Apple Watch Series 6 and mid-range Apple Watch SE. The Watch Series 3 is still on sale, providing users with products in multiple price ranges.

We also learned that, as always, Apple did not disclose Apple Watch sales in its financial report. Thus, any data from research companies is an estimate. Despite this, Apple’s wearable device category brought in a record $7.9 billion in revenue in the last quarter. Given that this part of the product includes products such as Apple Watch and AirPods, there is evidence that Apple Watch’s recent sales have been quite good.

When it comes to the overall wearable market, Apple emerged as the market leader with an estimated 41.4 million devices shipped. It includes the AirPods and the AirPods Pro. This is up from 29.8 million units of the same quarter last year making the company achieve a 38.6% annual growth.

IDC estimates that the Apple Watch accounted for 21.6% of the market share of wrist wearables shipped worldwide last quarter, lagging behind Xiaomi’s estimated market share of 24.5%. But the latter’s products range from high-end smartwatches to basic fitness bracelets like Xiaomi bracelets.

The global wearables industry continued to grow during the third quarter of 2020. It is the result of the market that witnessed a 35.1% increase in market year-over-year. In totality, the vendors shipped 125 million units in the third quarter of 2020.
