Xiaomi Will Produce The Third Generation Under-Screen Camera Next Year

Fantastic news for all Xiaomi fans! The Chinese giant Xiaomi is going to release the third-generation under-screen camera technology next year. It simply means that it achieve mass production of this new technology. Moreover, the screen supplier of this smartphone is China Star Optoelectronics, a subsidiary of TCL. It is important to mention that the first and the second generations have not been ready to enter into a mass-market.

Under-screen camera technology has solved two major problems in the smartphone industry. The first issue is that the display of the whole area can be visually the same as other areas (pixel compensation). The other problem is the transmittance of the camera’s selfie and the color cast caused. Xiaomi claims that Xiaomi’s third-generation off-screen camera is currently the most advanced technology. Hence, it will become the best solution in the full-screen era.

Although the screen area above the camera should match the “brightness, color gamut, and color accuracy” of the rest of the display, nobody mentioned that the panel of the new under-screen camera is OLED or LCD, or what kind of resolution we can expect it to be.

In fact, this is not the first time that Xiaomi and China Star Optoelectronics have cooperated. Before that, the China Star Optoelectronics exclusively supplied the Xiaomi Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition screen, and some Xiaomi Mi 10 smartphones also adopted TCL domestic AMOLED screen version.
