Xiaomi Group Vice President, China President, Redmi Brand General Manager Lu Weibing announced today on Weibo, confirming that the upcoming Redmi K40 will sport an E4 material OLED screen. So, it will be the first straight-screen flagship sporting that OLED screen. This is the same display that the Xiaomi Mi 11 uses.
In the afternoon, Lu Weibing explained in detail the reasons why the K40 series adopts E4 material and a straight screen design. He said that the original intention of the product design was to “create a perfect screen for users who like straight screens.”
In addition, Lu Weibing also stated that the Redmi K40 will be “standard with a 120Hz high-brush screen for all systems.”
Differences between curved and straight screens
Lu Weibing said that there are always users who have a soft spot for direct screens. He claims, that there is no difference between the straight screen and the curved screen. The curved screen has a higher appearance and is thinner and lighter. The straight screen feels better and is suitable for video and game applications. Thus, the Redmi K40 is coming to give users a better audiovisual and gaming application.
The E3 and E4 materials refer to the luminescent materials of OLED screens. The latest E4 material AMOLED screen has better performance in peak brightness and power consumption. The peak brightness is 1300nit. And it features a high contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1. It has a high refresh rate of 120Hz. According to previous revelations and official warm-up information, the Redmi K40 series will sport with Snapdragon 870 / Snapdragon 888 processors. Moreover, the phone comes with a LPDDR5 memory, and UFS 3.1 memory chips.
Recently, the Redmi K40 and Redmi K40 Pro got 3C certification and also passed through TENAA. From the listing information, the Redmi K40 series uses the dimension 163.7 × 76.4 × 7.8 mm and its thickness is 7.8 mm. This smartphone will also come with a 4,500 mAh battery.
The product launch conference will be held at 19:30 on February 25.
