The Redmi K40 series smartphones were released on February 25. The Redmi K40 Standard Edition is equipped with Snapdragon 870, E4 material 120Hz direct screen. And the price starts at 1999 yuan(308.9$). The Redmi K40 Pro is equipped with Snapdragon 888 processor. And the price starts at 2799 yuan(432.5$). The official Redmi account yesterday introduced the principles of the K40 series Dolby Atmos technology.

The company said that the Dolby Atmos technology used in the smartphone is based on the sound effects of the cinema Dolby Atmos. The audio can be decomposed into different individual audio elements, such as the shout of a child, the sound of a helicopter taking off, and the whistle of a car. Each audio element can be rendered separately and set its position in three-dimensional space.

Since most smartphones and headphones are dual-channel and do not have the multi-channel system of a movie theater. In order to create realistic height and surround sound perception, a two-channel mobile system should first have a head-related transmission function- HRTF. HRTF describes how incoming sound effects from different locations around us reach our ears. The human ear judges the sound position by perceiving the time when the sound reaches both ears and the sound characteristics. The sound characteristics perceived by each ear may also be slightly different (for example, softer or less clear). These differences stem from the interference generated by the listener’s head, torso and outer ears. The brain will instantly treat such differences as spatial information for processing. So that our sense of hearing will have a three-dimensional sense. HRTF can present the same difference mathematically.

Dolby Atmos Technology Functions
Streaming Dolby Atmos (Dolby Atmos) mixing supports up to 128 simultaneous audio objects. It contains metadata that describes the location of each object in space. The Dolby Atmos processor on the mobile device can apply a variety of HRTFs to the metadata to reproduce the spatial information in the stereo signal and create a spatial experience. Speakers will produce a natural “crosstalk” phenomenon in our ears, which is not conducive to simulating multiple channels. The Dolby Atmos processor in the phone can also eliminate this crosstalk. Then can apply HRTF to produce a multi-dimensional sound field and the movement of audio objects. The Redmi K40 and K40 Pro will be on sale again at 0:00 on March 4.
