According to the latest research report released by Counterpoint Research, in the fourth quarter of 2020, Xiaomi surpassed Samsung to become Russia’s number one smartphone brand in online sales. On the other hand, Apple entered the country’s top three online sales for the first time.
Xiaomi ranked first with a market share of 31% in the quarter. Samsung followed closely with a share of 27%. Apple ranked third with a share of 15.5%. Huawei’s share fell to 14.8%, ranking fourth. Its share in the same period last year was as high as 31.2%, ranking first. Realme shares were 3.3%, ranking fifth.
Research analyst Soumen Mandal said: ‘Samsung was the most popular smartphone brand in Russia in Q4 2020. However, Xiaomi led online smartphone sales, followed by Samsung and Apple. For the first time, Apple entered the top three rankings for online smartphone sales, driven by the good performance of the iPhone 12 series and Huawei’s supply shortages. However, starting sales were not good for the iPhone 12 series compared to the iPhone 11 series due to a shortage of the 12 Pro models and a higher ASP (average selling price). realme was the biggest beneficiary of sanctions against Huawei and moved up to the fifth position in terms of total shipments in Q4 2020, while increasing its lead over OPPO in online channel sales.’
Soumen Mandal revealed that Huawei plans to launch more than 40 product categories in 2021. The categories are desktops, smart glasses, and displays. The company plans to further diversify its business in the Russian market. Counterpoint believes that as Honor obtains the right to use GMS after the split from Huawei, Honor is likely to regain market share.
