Recently, at the 4th China Home Furnishing Brand Conference in 2020, Federal Furniture, MUJI, Mercury Home Textiles, Xiaomi Sanitary Ware, and others were on the black list of ‘2019-2020 Top Ten Quality Black List of Chinese Home Furnishings’.
Xu Jieyun, general manager of Xiaomi’s public relations department, responded on Weibo. He said, ‘This so-called ‘Xiaomi Sanitary Ware’ has nothing to do with Xiaomi Group. Our legal colleagues have already conducted a series of lawsuits to protect the rights and interests of Xiaomi’s brand. Hope you know’.
The reason why Xiaomi Sanitary Ware was on the list is simple. 3 products were unqualified in two random inspections within six months. On December 31, 2019, two products of Xiaomi Sanitary Ware Co., Ltd. were declared unqualified by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration. They were ‘hand-push toilet flush valve, toilet pressure flush valve and floor drain unqualified items’. On May 15, 2020, the Fujian Provincial Market Supervision Administration issued a quality announcement of provincial supervision and spot check on the quality of industrial products. The pipe thread accuracy item had low quality.
This is not the first time when other Chinese companies infringe on the Xiaomi trademark. The brand previously named ‘Xiaomi Life’ paid 50 million yuan in compensation to Xiaomi at the end of last year for trademark infringement. Xiaomi also sued an electric car company in Langfang. It was selling products under the name ‘Lei Jun Electric’. As a result, Xiaomi got 400,000 yuan compensation.
