At the Snapdragon Technology Summit held in Hawaii, Qualcomm officially released a new generation of flagship chip Snapdragon 888. Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group Lei Jun announced that Xiaomi’s new flagship (assumed to be the Xiaomi Mi 11) will debut the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 flagship processor (in China).
Lei Jun posted a special unboxing picture on Weibo today. A closer look reveals that the code name of SM8350 you can find on the chip.
Lei Jun said: ‘This small chip has tens of billions of transistors and brings together a variety of cutting-edge technologies. This is Qualcomm’s most powerful mobile platform so far. The Xiaomi Mi 11 will launch this chip for the first time and will meet with you soon’.
The Snapdragon 888 uses 1 x 2.84GHz (ARM’s latest Cortex X1 core)+3 x 2.4GHz (Cortex A78)+4 x 1.8GHz (Cortex A55), Adreno 660 GPU, X60 5G modem baseband, support WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2.
The Snapdragon 888 uses the Snapdragon X60 modem announced by Qualcomm earlier this year. The modem uses a 5nm process to achieve better power efficiency and improve 5G carrier aggregation across millimeter-wave mmWave and frequency spectrum below 6GHz. Also, it supports global multi-SIM cards, SA independence and NSA non-independence networks, and dynamic spectrum sharing. Between the new 5nm architecture and the power efficiency improvements brought by the integrated modem, the new chip seems to provide some substantial battery life improvements in 5G.
According to the Weibo blogger, the Mi 11 series will be in stock soon, much faster than Samsung. And the non-launch model of Snapdragon 888 is scheduled to be launched in January, and Xiaomi has an exclusive period.
