Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 May Come With Hidden-Camera Technology

Xiaomi Mi MIX 4

Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 flagship smartphone has been in the rumor mills for a long time. When the company was expected to launch the smartphone, we instead got the Mix Alpha concept device. However, the rumors and leaks about the Mi Mix 4 are still going strong.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 Patent Reveals New Design

The Chinese smartphone maker has filed a new patent which is believed to be for the upcoming Mi Mix 4. The patent, called “display structure and electronic equipment”, describes a hidden camera under the phone’s screen that does not take up any space on the display.

The diagrams in the patent application show a smartphone with two selfie cameras at the top. They are separated by a small gap. The two selfie cameras will be visible when the camera app is opened. It will also be visible in any other app, where users need to capture a photo or video. But when the front camera is not being used, the pixels in the region directly above the camera sensor will come alive and blend the rest of the pixels on the display to provide a perfect look.

It is worth mentioning that previously, Lu Weibing, the vice president of Xiaomi Group and general manager of the Redmi brand, revealed that Xiaomi is working hard to overcome the hidden-camera technology. In June this year, Xiaomi announced its own front-facing camera technology under the screen. Xiaomi called it “hidden screen technology.” Since the company has been making progress with regards to this under-display or in-display camera technology, we expect to see a smartphone featuring the same tech in the coming months. However, it is not clear on which phone the dual under-display camera technology will debut. Plus, we don’t know when it will hit the market. But it is widely believed that the Mi MIX 4 will come with this technology. So we’ll have our eyes set for the launch during CES and MWC in the coming months.
