Today, as planned, Xiaomi held a new product launch conference. At the event, it not only announced the Redmi 10X smartphone, but also the Redmi Smart TV X and the RedmiBook Ruilong series. Anyway, the Redmi 10X is a quite interesting model. So we should dig deeper in its details.
The Redmi 10X and 10X Pro are positioned as ‘light flagships’, between Redmi’s original K flagship series and entry-level Note series. The MediaTek Dimensity 820 chips are the first in the industry, priced from 1599 yuan ($224).
Previously, after Lu Weibing took over Redmi, he made drastic reforms to the brand. Since then, Redmi has taken over the ‘cost-effective’ characteristics. The K20 series is a typical representative of this feature. Today’s Redmi 10X series is a new product under the K series. They are not as extreme as the K series, but they are also cost-effective.
The appearance of the two phones is similar, both of which have been designed since the Xiaomi Mi 8. The measurements of 164.16×75.75×8.99 mm and the weight of 205/208 grams are quite acceptable but not ideal. The 3D curved body makes it comfortable to hold. There are four color options: Purple, Deep Ocean Blue, Star Dew White, and Hazy Moon Gold.
The 6.57-inch Samsung AMOLED screen has a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels and a maximum brightness of 800 nits. Because it is made of OLED, it can also support off-screen display and use the fingerprint under the screen.
In terms of photography, the Redmi 10X has a 48MP main camera lens + 8MP super wide-angle lens + 8MP telephoto lens + 2MP depth of field lens. The Redmi 10X Pro comes with a 48MP main camera lens + 8MP super wide-angle lens + 8MP telephoto lens + 5MP macro lens. The latter has a maximum 30x digital zoom capability, and macro shooting is better.
There are other differences between the two. Say, the Redmi 10X does not have NFC, and the Pro version has. The Redmi 10X front camera has a 16MP resolution, while the Pro version comes with a 20MP camera. The rest of the hardware is basically the same. For the core part, they all adopt MediaTek’s Dimensity 820 chip. The latter is based on a 7nm process, has an 8-core structure (4 A76 2.6GHz + 4 A55 2.0GHz), etc.
This chip has a single-core score of 640 and a multi-core score of more than 2500 in the GeekBench 5.1 performance test. This score is similar to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G (single-core 610, multi-core 1873), or the Kirin 820 (single-core 640, multi-core 2424). Its positioning is also a mid-range flagship. But it has certain advantages in 5G. Currently, MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000+ and 820 can support dual 5G card standby, while most 5G smartphones currently support 5G and 4G.
Of course, the dual 5G standby function of the Redmi 10X series still needs to be supported after the system upgrade in June. At the press conference, the spokesperson said that the dual 5G standby can keep the phone network of different operators on 5G instead of falling back like other smartphones.
In order to further optimize the 5G experience, Redmi also made some scene optimizations with MediaTek, such as the elevator mode. Using an electronic accelerometer, it senses phones in the elevator, and quickly recovers the 5G network when exiting the elevator. And the high-speed rail mode target the popular high-speed rail lines, monitoring network characteristics and optimizing parameters. Redmi said that this is a lot of actual data obtained by its own engineers who have measured more than 60,000 kilometers by car.
The price of the Redmi 10X is 1599 yuan (6 + 64GB), the highest price is 2399 yuan; the Redmi 10X Pro is priced at 2299 yuan (8 + 128GB), and 8 + 256GB is 2599 yuan.
The pricing of this series of smartphones means that the 5G phone has reached the 1500 yuan level. And it will further reduce the 2000 yuan 5G phone price set by other brands.
Redmi 10X 4G
In addition to 5G smartphones, there is also a 4G variant released today. As a supplement to the 10X series of 5G phones, this product is priced at only 999 yuan. It uses a 6.53-inch punch-hole screen, a 48-megapixel quad-camera system, MediaTek Helio G85 SoC, 5020mAh battery, and a fingerprint + face unlocking.
This is an obvious entry-level phone. Like the previous Redmi 7A and other products, it is prepared for users with limited budgets.
